Article 4 & 25 of UNCRC clearly mentions that the GOVERNMENT IS RESPONSIBLE for protecting the rights of children; and IF THE CHILDREN ARE BEING LOOKED AFTER AWAY FROM THEIR HOMES, their situation should be regularly reviewed to make sure that the children are getting good treatment and care.
When such cases of children being taken to prisons along with their mothers happen, the Govt. (MSCPCR) monitors and make sure that children of women prisoners are taken care. Hence, in order to make sure and fulfil the mandates of the Commission, Pi Lalengvari and Pi Priscilla Lallawmsangi visited Serchhip District Jail on 06.05.2024 (Monday), wherein the Jail Superintendent, the Staff and the inmates of District Jail were met, while assessing and examining whether the provisions for children of women prisoners, lactating and nursing women prisoners are met and complied or not by the Jail Authorities, as given in the “Mizoram Prison Manual 2017”.
On 07.05.2024 (Tuesday), awareness programme was given for the students and faculties of JM H/S, Serchhip, highlighting on “The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012. Pi Priscilla Lallawmsangi gave a brief lecture on the POCSO Act and its legislation which aims at protecting children from all types of sexual abuse.
